Newly discovered 3,300-year-old shipwreck ‘changes the understanding' of sailing in ancient world

A ship dating back 3,300 years has been found at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. It is one of the oldest shipwrecks discovered, shedding new light on ancient sailing. The vessel is estimated to be from the 13th or 14th century BCE and was located 90 kilometers from the shore in waters 1.8 kilometers deep. Intact jars were found on board. The shipwreck was discovered during an environmental survey by a natural gas production company. The ship may have been wrecked by a storm or pirates. This finding challenges previous assumptions about ancient maritime trade.
